Games are a great medium to simplify complex topics, making them more relatable and engaging while fostering empathy and deeper comprehension among teams.

Snakes and Ladders

This is why, following a research project on the pension gender gap, I reimagined the traditional game Snakes and Ladders into a virtual Snakes, Ladders, and Pension Gender Gaps for the team. Playing the game, they could gain a first-hand understanding of the financial challenges women encounter through different stages of life.

The Game of Life

Following the success of the first game, I developed a second one, this time a tailored version of The Game of Life.  In this game, we explored the spectrum of being in a state of financial vulnerability. The idea of re-designing this game came from our colleague Rob. Our Game of Life adaptation illustrates perfectly that vulnerability is not static but dynamically influenced by life’s unpredictable events. Drawing on authentic data and research, the game highlighted pivotal life moments that precipitate vulnerability or getting out of it.  It also illustrated the transformative impact that support from foundational institutions like the financial organisations can have.

At Life Moments we like redefining the norms for the sake of better educating people on their finances. We are also happy to push boundaries on traditional workplace learning. As complex subjects can be made more engaging and accessible through thoughtful gamification, I aim to create more versions of classic games to continue captivating our Life Moments team and beyond.
